Two (2) African authors, Maaza Mengiste from Ethiopia and Tsitsi Dangaremgba from Zimbabwe have been selected for the 2020 Booker Prize Longlist. The longlist for The 2020 Booker Prize was announced on Tuesday 28 July 2020. This year’s longlist consists of thirteen (13) amazing books.
I recently started a bookstagram account where I write short and honest reviews about the books I’ve read. The goal is to share my thoughts and also recommend books.
The cover of the book is a statement. The color yellow signifies healing, abundance, self confidence, empowerment, happiness and positivity. Alternatively, the color could signify deceit or cowardice. The women on the cover symbolize the diverse characters in the book.
For my writing process, I usually start by building the story in my mind, end to end. I need to be convinced I have a story in my mind before I start to write. This can take any time from a few weeks to months.
I get sad books when I see books with torn covers, yellow pages and dog eared pages. In a recent discussion with a friend who works in a library, he stated that the maintenance culture of Ghanaians is poor and totally non-existence. In less than 6 months of the establishment of the library, about half of the book pages are dog eared and a few have been left in worse condition. I guess this discussion inspired this blog post.
