How to write a short and simple book review

Review

I recently started a bookstagram account where I write short and honest reviews about the books I’ve read. The goal is to share my thoughts and also recommend books.

Here are some steps to write a short and simple book review:

Start with the summary of the book:

It is important to start with the summary of the book so that people know exactly what the book is about. Share the summary without giving too much information or spoilers. Allow other readers to find the exciting and intriguing part of the novel. The summary also gives other readers an idea of what the book is about.

Share how the book made you feel:

I think it necessary to share how the book made you feel. This way, you build an emotional bond with other readers – especially if they felt the same way. It also gives other readers an idea of the kind of emotions the book will evoke – anger, disgust, hatred, love, sad, hope, joy among others.

Share the good part of the book:

Books have both good and bad parts. Share the good parts and how it affected the plot. You must pick out the good part and praise the author for an excellent job done – this way, you encourage the author. There are other things I look out for when reading a book:

  1. The use of language
  2. The writing style
  3. Themes discussed
  4. How the book applies to my everyday life
  5. Similar books
  6. Authenticity of the story
  7. Favourite Character
  8. Favourite quotes

Share the bad part:

Mention the part you disliked or the part that didn’t work in the book – please politely do this (do not be mean). Share this in such a way that other readers can form opinions of their own.

Recommendations and Ratings:

Recommend the book for other readers and why you think they will enjoy reading the book. It is also very important to rate the book – between 1-5 stars.
